Dressed Up Chocolate Cone
Friday, August 24, 2007 at 04:32PM This is a cute, fast and easy gift that we learned at convention. A simple cone made with Stampin' Up Designer Series Papers is so effective, because the papers are double-sided so everything coordinates immediately.
[Tip: Don't eat all the chocolate before you're done!]
This project starts with a 6x6" square. If you have the Palette 'o Prints from the special a few months back, you are ready to rock & roll. But if not you can also cut 6x6's. You get 4 from one sheet of 12x12. Try it with the new textured cardstock too!
I chose this Almost Amethyst piece with brocade on one side and polka dots on the other.
A tip we got at convention was to use the 3/4" circle punch upside down to cut a quarter circle from the bottom first so you have a nice neat tip. Why don't I think of these things...
Begin forming the paper into a cone by rolling it and getting it used to the idea. Talk very nicely to it and be convincing.
Attach a strip of Sticky Strip to one side, close to the edge. Burnish it with the bone folder or your finger before lifting off the red layer.
Have you been reading my 10-Second Tips? Here's your chance to use one: place the annoying red stip down onto a piece of Snail adhesive that is waiting on a scrap paper. Don't even give it a chance to fight.
Burnish the seam from inside the cone with a Bone Folder.
And here is the cone. If you look closely you can see my mistake. Don't look closely.
What colors to go with it? Save yourself time and brain-clenching by simply using the Color Coach. Hold up the main color and go "window shopping" for coordinating colors. I chose Rose Red and So Saffron.
For the medallion on the front, punch 2 scallops from the 2 coordinating colors you chose, plus 3 little flowers from the Three For You Punch Box (on sale this month!) in the same color as the cone.
(Aaaak! These colors don't look true here, but you get the gist.)
Spend five hours selecting which chipboard piece you want to use (just kidding, but there are A LOT of fun pieces in each kit!) This is the OnBoard Blossoms & Basics kit.
Choose a color of Craft ink for dying the chipboard. I like the Craft Stampin' Spots because of my "problem" -- ahem -- with decision making. The Spots give you all the colors in one neat little box.
Rose Red is today's color.

Lay the chipboard on the Spot (if it were bigger you could use the Spot as a paintbrush).

Smooth over the top of the chipboard with your finger on top of scrap paper. Don't push too hard, Craft ink is very wet!!![]()
Color is transferred. Let it dry a few minutes or use the Heat Tool to set.
Layer the So Saffon scallop on the Rose Red scallop, offsetting them. Then attach the colored chipboard flower with Mini Glue Dots.
Now we get to play with the Pretties Kit -- yummy!
Choose a flower that will fit inside the scallop medallion, and a medium size Clear Round Rhinestone Brad.
[Tip: Replace cover immediately if you have a cat.]
Use the pliers/wire cutter from the Crafters' Tool Kit to cut off the legs of the Rhinestone Brad. You will need to work them back and forth a few times. Use the pliers to bend down any metal pieces that are sticking out.
Attach the white flower to the chipboard, and the Amethyst flower to the white flower, and the brad to the Amethyst flower, all with Mini Glue Dots.
Attach the medallion to the front of the cone with Mini Glue Dots. Stuff with wonderful candies, etc. and tie on stamped tag with ribbon. [Tip: Stampin' Up Cello Bags are perfect for wrapping the goodies.]
Here's another version.
Enjoy and have fun making this cute project!!
